2018 match stats
Here you will find details on every match I have fished throughout 2018 good or bad!!
2018 - 106 matches, total aggregate weight 3,735lb
This year I decided move away from fishing predominantly club matches with the odd Commercial open, to fishing more commercials venues. So this year is a bit of an learning curve for me, fishing against some very good venue experts and sponsored anglers. I'm not framing so much as in previous years due to fishing against these anglers but I've still had a few wins and framing places, fishing lots of different venues and I'm really enjoying my fishing this year.
30th December, Section WIN, Woodland View Sunday Open, Back Deans 44, 32lb 4oz
I finished off the year taking a section win at Woodland View Sunday open held on Front and Deans. I fished a simple match with maggots at 14.5 metres to catch "anything that swims" catch 4 Carp, plenty of small stockie F1's Skimmers and Roach. Read my blog on this match HERE
28th December, 2nd in match, Hawford Bridge Fisheries, Penn pool, 32lb 0oz
This was my first time visit to this fishery. fishing on the Penn pool, I caught 8 Carp on the Bomb and Bread and 3 carp on corn on the pole up against a reed bed to finish 2nd in the match with 32lb 0oz

27th December, Woodland View Charity Match, in aid of Worcestershire Carers, Back Deans 57, 9lb 4oz.
This proven to be a poor draw with no Carp up my end of the pool this week. I never had a Carp bite all day. All I could catch was a few silvers weighing in 9lb 4oz. But over £1000 was raised for the charity.
23rd December, Pool/Section WIN, Woodland View Fur and Feather
A nice simple match this one catching Carp, F1's, Skimmers and Roach all day from Front Dean 27 wining my pool/section with 55lb 12oz which was 3rd overall in the match. Read my blog on this match HERE
22nd December, Golden Rod Qualifer, Larford, Speciman pool 54, 5lb 10oz
I big match this one but a bad draw saw me on Speciman pool 54. With only feeder rods allowed I struggled only catching a few Skimmers and Road on the maggot feeder.
16th December, Hillview Sunday Open, Heron 35, 9lb 0oz
One to forget about!! I caught a few silvers a couple of stockie's and an F1. Winter fishing at its worst!!
9th December, Woodland View Winter Pairs ICS league. HIgh pool 10, 32lb 0lb
Myself and partner Andy went into this round as league leaders. I drew well on High pool finishing 4th on the pool with 32lb while Andy drew badly in Front Deans on the wrong end of the pool and really struggled. We ended the match with 14 points. Several pairs in the league did well and we slipped down to 5th place. But we are still only 5 points off top spot with 4 more round to fish.
8th December, Manor Farm Leisure Winter League R3, Ash 15 - 4lb 12oz
One to forget this one. I drew on Ash for the 3rd time out of 3 matches and stuck in the corner on no hope peg 15. I never had a carp bite all day, weighing in just a bag of small Roach and Skimmers
2nd December, Hillview Saturday Open, Moorhen 3, 48lb 0oz
This match I drew on Moorhen 3 which I was told at the draw by one of the regulars that it wasn't a good peg, and so it proved, I never had a F1 long or short on maggots or soft pellets. I only caught a few silvers. So with two hours to go I was carpless, So I started fishing corn into the righthand margin for Carp, I caught a few Carp to weigh in 48lb but by this time it was to late in the match to catch up.
1st December, Hillview Saturday Open, Heron 25, 32lb 0oz
Only my 2nd time on this pool and I drew the same peg, 25 from a couple of weeks ago. That day I struggled until the last hours but then caught F1's to weigh in 71lb and this match was almost a carbon copy, catching F1's short on maggots again, but this time just 32lb
30th November, Tunnel Barn Farm, Friday Flyer, High pool 40, 34lb 0oz
A day of work mean't I was able to get up Tunnal Barn for their Friday Flyer, This was my first time fishing High pool and I had an enjoyable match catching F1's mainly on soft pellets over mirco's over to the island. I didn't really frame still an enjoyble days fishing.
25th November, Woodland View, Winter Pairs League, Front Deans 29, 20lb 0oz
This was the 2nd round of the Winter Pairs League, Myself and partner Andy Mitchell got of to a great start winning the first round, This week I put I modest 20lb on the scales for 7th on my pool, but Andy did great coming 2nd on his pool giving us 9 points. This was enough for us to stay in 1st place in the league. Read my blog on this match HERE
24th November, Hillview Saturday Open, MATCH WIN, Moorhen 17, 81lb 0oz
This match saw most of my fish caught on the maggot feeder and then a few lateron the pole, all at 13 metres on the pole with maggots.
Read my blog on this match HERE
22nd November, Manor Farm Leisure, Affordable Open, island 27, 4oz
I really struggled on a bad peg, after a heavy overnight frost on a freezing cold day. All I could catch were small perch on maggots. One to forget
18th November, Hillview Sunday Open, Canal 3, peg 74, 38lb 0oz.
This match was on all four of the canals, so tightly pegged. I'd planned to catch short on 2+2 with maggots but this didn't work for me. All my fish came from the far shelf up against the reeds on hard pellets. I wieighed in 38lb for no where in the match.
17th November, Manor Farm Leisure Winter League R2, Ash 3, 40lb 8oz
It was back to Manor Farm Leisure for the 2nd round of the Winter League, I drew on Ash 3 and decided to fish hard pellets long and maggots short. I had a good start catching F1's and Skimmers long. A bright sunny day with a ripple on the water made the pole float all most impossible to see bites all day and I had to keep coming short on the maggot line. This only produced one F1 and and a few Skimmers. I weighed 40lb 8oz for 5th in the section.
11th November, WINNER - 1st Round Woodland View WInter Pairs League. High pool, peg 13 - 74lb 0oz Lake/section WIN.
With 23 pairs fishing, I drew on High 13 and won my pool/section with 74lb. My partner Andy Mitchell drew on Front Deans and also caught well weighing in 36lb to take 3rd in section. This gave us 4 points which was enough to win the round, a great start to the League. Read my Blog on this match HERE
10th November, Manor Farm Leisure Sunday Open, Boundary Pool 17, 21lb
It was back to Manor Farm, a venue I struggle with and today was no different weighing in 21lb 0oz for nowhere in the match. I'll keep going until I crack it.
4th November, Hillview Sunday Open, on Moorhen and Heron, drew Heron 25, 2nd in section, 71lb 0oz.
This really is a cracking winter venue, all six my my Jubilee Nomad travelling pals, fished the Open at Hillview and caught well. I ended up 2nd in my section with 71lb 0oz. All fish caught on maggots at 6 metres. This isn't a method I'm used to and once I'd sorted out my feeding I caught well, especially the last hour when I was bagging on F1's.
3rd November, Manor Farm Saturday Open, on Ash, Island and Middle pools, drew Ash 7, 19lb 0oz
One to forget this one. I struggled to weighing in 19lb which was last on the pool. I was just glad I had on my new pair of winter boots which I'd brought in the week. The peg was really shallow, so I was able to set up in the water.
28th October, Woodland View Clubman match, a 110 pegger, Arles 7, 29lb 6oz for a section win.
This match was sponsored by Preston Innovations and was open to all anglers that had fished clubs matches at the venue during 2018. With tackle prizes and food after the match provided, this attracted 110 angler to the match. fishing on Front and Back Deans, Hay and Barley, Arles and Ghost pools. I drew peg 7 on Arles pool a managed a section win with 29lb 6oz. Read mu Blog on this match HERE
27th October, Manor Farm Leisure Winter League R1, Ash 19, 65lb 10oz 4th in section
The first round of this league really was back to winter fishing on a bitterly cold day. The pole was only producing small silvers, having tried, hard and soft pellets with 4's and 6's and maggots. I just couldn't catch a carp. I was looking at a last in section! A change was needed and I threw out the bomb with 2 hours to go, baited with a 8mm White Wafter This transformed my match and I began catching Carp to weigh in 65lb 10oz which got me up to 4th in the section.
21st October -Team match, 3rd placed, Whitehall 1212 Teams of 4 match, Lower Broadheath fisheries. Sycamore pool 4, 24lb 10oz,
I captained an Evesham Jubilee team of 4 for this 13 team event at the Jam factory. I drew on Sycamore pool which fished ready hard but I managed to win my bank, well up the section in 6th place. The other team members also finished well up there sections. Which mean't we were in with a chance of picking up back at the pub for the presentation. In fact when we got back to the presentation we actually finished up in 3rd place overall.
20th October - Manor Farm Leisure Saturday Open, Island pool 32, 18lb 12oz
I took a trip to Manor Farm as the Winter League starts next week. I wanted to get a feel for the place as I've not been for a while. Most people struggled in my section with the angler next to me DNW'ing so my 18lb 12oz wasn't to bad. I just spent the day alternating between the method to the island, straight lead and the pole picking off the odd fish.
14th October - Jubilee club match Hillview, canal 3 peg 82, 60lb 0oz
It was back to winter today, fishing with heavy rain all day, but not much wind so I was sat under the brolly all day, I started on a 6mm Soft pellet on top2+1 catching a few small carp and F1's, changed to hard pellet but still continued catching small carp and F1's. Changed to corn over into the corner as it was an end peg (wrong end though!) and catch a better stamp of carp but still small so fed corn into the left margin and caught a few more better carp but still small. Tried the right margin and top2 with micro's and soft pellet and had a few more. Ended up rotating all four lines for the rest of the day catching on and off, never really had a good run and ended up weighing in 60lb 0oz for no where in the match. enjoyed the day though.
7th October - Manor Farm Leisure Sunday Open. Middle pool peg 9 - 41lb 1oz
I decided on a trip Manor Farm Leisure, wanting some practice before the winter league starts in 3 weeks time and I'd not been there for a while. The open was on Island and Middle pools. I drew on Middle 9. Despite a heavy overnight frost I had bites all day catching Carp, Skimmers and F1's all day on soft pellets over micro's and hard pellets later in the match. I had a frustrating day pulling out of carp at the net which probably cost me a section win.
3 day Birbeck/Somerset Leveller festival, Viaduct Fishery, The Sedges and Avalon Fisheries.
1st day Viaduct, Carey 86 - 51lb 14oz I went expecting a big weight but it never happened, I planned to fish the bomb with big pellets and never got a pull. I ended up catching 3 Carp for 30lb and 21lb 14oz of Skimmers, finishing with 3 section points.
2nd day The Sedges on Tile 28, I caught a similar weight to the day before 52lb 0oz but this time on the hard pellet. finishing 2nd in section.
3rd day Avalon Fisheries, Moors 21. This was my best match of the 3 days, I caught 78lb 10oz for 2nd in the match and an all important section win. This gave me a mid table finish in 7th place overall.
23rd September, Woodland View Sunday Open, Hay 7, 48lb 0oz
This match was on Hay and Barley, I drew on Hay 7, my first time on this pool. I caught on and off all match, alternating with hard pellets, Soft pellets and corn from 2 short pole lines and the right hand margin. I enjoyed the day but I was still off the pace.
9th Sept, Brookfields AC match, Lower Broadheath fisheries, (Jam Factory) Old pool peg 10, 80lb 0oz
After struggling up at Tunnel Barn I really wanted to catch a few fish. The Jam Factory didn't disappoint. I caught 80lb of fish for a nice days fishing. I really should have broken the tonne barrier, having lost approximately 40lb of big Carp. I caught a few Carp and Skimmers on the pole at 13 metres on the 8mm hard pellet before switching to the left margin fishing meat for the rest of the match.
8th Sept, Tunnel Farm Barn, Saturday open, Top pool peg 14, 10lb 6oz
Not a good match this one, I caught very little and bites were very slow and then I had the lilly pads to deal with and I lost a few fish in them. I wasn't the only one to struggle and armed with just pellets and corn maybe I would have done better if I'd brought some maggots. One to forget about this one. My worst result at tunnel !!
2nd September, 5th place, Lower Park Fishery, Swan 3, 15lb 4oz
This was my 2nd visit to Lower Park Fishery, The match was on Lowland and Swan pools. The venue totally switched off for this match with it being won with only 27lb . I weighed in 15lb 4oz for a 5th place pick up.
1st September, The Grant Davis Memorial Cup match, Jubilee Fishery DNW
A special match this one. Grant died 14 years ago and was the secretary of Evesham Jubilee A.S. I took over the secretary job then and I still am secretary of the club 14 years later. This match has raised over £14,000 for St Richards Hospice in Worcester in the last 14 years. I was privileged to win this match in 2010 and remains one I want to win every year. This year a poor draw resulted me throwing back 3lb. But the day raised another £680.00 so a good day!
26th August, Woodland View Sunday open, Front Deans 32, 96lb 8oz
I enjoyed this match catching Carp and F1's at 6 metres on hard pellets for most of the match plus I few on top 2+2. The margins didn't produce this time but an enjoyable day catching fish and only just missing out on the tonne, weighing in 96lb 8oz.
25th August, Tunnel Farm Barn Saturday open, Extension 19, 68lb 5oz
This was my first time on Extension pool. I caught F1's over by the island early before switching to my short top2+2 line which produced F1's for the next couple of hours before the bites slowed down. I then spent the last hour in the left margin catching more F1's to weigh in 68lb 5oz. Which was no where in the match. Talking to a regular after the match I really should have fished the right margin rather than the left one.
23rd August, Manor Farm Leisure, Affordable Open, Island pool, peg 12, 44lb 10oz
I caught a few Carp and F1's today but never really had a good run catching on the pole and straight lead with hard pellets. Only when I changed from an 6mm to a 8mm on the pole did a put a bit of a run together on the pole, finished in 6th place
22nd August, Jubilee Fishery Affordable Open, Jubilee pool, peg 5, 25lb 4oz
This was my first visit to the Jubilee fishery 5 hour match for 8 months. I caught 9 Carp for 25lb 4oz. 7 over to the Island on hard pellets and 2 in the edge on meat. Just missed a section win by 2lb.
21st August, 2nd placed Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Evening Open, Jubilee 7, 39lb1oz
I had a great start on this last Tuesday evening open of the summer catching carp at 11 metres on hard 6mm pellets and I thought I was on for a good weight but as the evening drew on the bites slowed down and I began to foul hook carp. So going into the last hour I switched to the right hand margin fishin 8mm cubes of meat. I ended the evening with 9 Carp and 3 Roach with gave me 39lb 1oz and 2nd place in the match.
19th August, 2nd placed - Brookfields club match, Woodland View, Arles pool, 25 - 87lb 0oz
My first time fishing on this pool, I caught straight out in front of me at 6 metres fishing 6mm hard pellets and then the final two hours of the match in the left hand margin also on 8mm hard pellets. Weighing in 87lb 0oz. Read my Blog on this match HERE
18th August, Tunnel Farm Barn Saturday Open, New pool 33, 39lb 8oz
Some top anglers fishing the match, I was never in the race, weighing in 39lb 8oz. I'm learning every time I visit this venue and hopefully I will compete soon!!
17th August, Charity match at Woodland View, High pool 6, 21lb 8oz
With Front and Back Deans and High pool in, I drew terrible High pool 6, The peg was 8 foot deep and not the best place to be in the summer, I struggled for 21lb 8oz, A good day though and a Breakfast and end of match meal thrown into the £25.00 entrance fee. I managed to win a extractor fan in the raffle!!! About £700.00 was raised for charity on the day.
Section WIN - Brookfield's club match, Woodland View, High Pool, 12 - 58lb 0oz
I started on the bottom with hard pellets but it was really slow for the first couple of hours, catching the odd carp. In the end I caught on 8mm hard pellets from both left and right margins to pick up a section win. Read my Blog on this match HERE
11th August - Tunnel Barn Farm, Saturday Open, House pool peg 4, 44lb 8oz
My first time on House pool at Tunnel Barn, I started well catching F1's on the bottom on 2+2 on hard pellets. Only being lazy when a trashed my rig and then tried the margin rather than putting on a new rig. I caught some F1's in the margin but I really should have returned to the 2+2 line. The margin slowed down so I tried shallow, again on pellets and caught a few more. before that slowed down and I returned to the margin, but it never really produced. I was just picking up the other F1 and not really catching quick enough to complete. I weighed in 44lb 8oz. So a bad match and I made a few mistakes, especially after talking to one of the regulars who was kind enough to give me some tips for next time. I was really fishing to heavy and lessons have been learnt for next time.
2nd placed, Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Evening Open, Jubilee pool peg 4, 57lb 2oz
A good short evening match this one. I drew on J4, I peg with some recent form. I set up two pole rigs, one with pellets against the lilly pads and one for the right hand margin. Starting on pellets proved to be slow with just a few Roach and a small carp. So I went into the margin with meat early and caught some big edge dwellers to weigh in 57lb 2oz. Only to lost the match by a pound. Read my blog on this match HERE
5th August - Tunnel Farm Farm Sunday Open, New and High pools, New 1, 63lb 1oz
With no club match this sunday a group of us travelled up to Tunnel Farm Barn for their Sunday open. I drew on New 1 a noted peg with lots of options and it can be a hit or miss peg. I caught a few F1's short on top 2+1 on pellets but these weren't very big and so I had a poor start to the match. I tried shallow for a while with no luck so I went into the left margin with pellets where I began to catch some better sized F1's. I weighed in 63lb 1oz with 120lb winning the match.
31st July - 2nd placed, Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Evening Open, Withies pool peg 5, 23lb 12oz
For an match on the Withies pool I actually enjoyed it this time. I started long on 6mm hard pellets for only a few Roach. I began feeding 4mm's short on top2+2 and had a couple of Carp before trying the left margin with meat. I had a couple of Carp from the margin before getting broke in the weeds before returning to the short line. I had a nice bag of 15 Roach, one Skimmer, a stockie and 7 small carp for 23lb 12oz which to enough for 2nd in the match. Read my blog on this match HERE
28th July - Manor Farm Leisure - Boundary 19 - 32lb 8oz
I fished on both days this weekend on Saturday I returned to Manor Farm on the Saturday and then had a club match at the Jam Factory on Ash on Sunday. I caught 87lb over the weekend but didn't frame on either day.
Saturday at Manor Farm I drew on Boundary 19. The wind and rain made it a difficult match. I had one F1 on the Method first chuck and then nothing. I throw out the Bomb and got it in a tangle with line wrapped around the back of my spool due to the wind. SO I decided in fishing the pole short again due to the wind and had a few F1's, Roach and Skimmers on hard pellets and went into the left margin on hard pellets due to the wind for the rest of the match. I weighed in 33lb 8oz for no where in the match.
29th Ash Pool, The Jam Factory, Lower Broadheath Fisheries, 55lb 0oz
Sunday saw me on the Ash pool at The Jam Factory, again I struggled caught a few Carp long and short on hard pellets, corn and expander pellet but really really was in the race. The anglers on the other bank were all well, but not on on my bank. I went into the margins earlier on meat and had a few carp in the last 2 hours. I weighed in 55lb for no where again this weekend.
25th July - 4th placed Jubilee Fishery Tuesday evening open - Jubilee 10, 34lb 13oz
I drew on peg 10 for the 3rd evening this year. I had a good start to the match catching carp at 7 metres on hard pallets and then as it slowed down I had a few from the margins. I fished the peg a little different tonight as I had some ground bait and worm left over from the weekend and I fished that in the margins during the 2nd half of the match rather than my normal meat tactic. Something I can see me doing more often. 55lb won the match
22nd July - Golden Reel Qualifier - Larford Match pool, peg 58, Throw back 25lb!!
This match was rather like throwing away 50 quid !! a high class spread of quality match anglers over the Specimen and match pools at Larford with nearly every peg in. I was never really in the race and throw back 25lb. A great experience though
20th July - 3rd placed, Tunnel Barn Farm, Friday Flyer on Jennys pool, peg 6, 97lb 8oz.
The last day of my weeks fishing Holiday saw me back at Tunnel Barn Farm for their Friday Flyer on Jennys pool, I drew on peg 6, I started long over to the island and found F1's feeding straight away and I stayed on this line for 45 minutes catching well, while I primed by top2+1 line with 4mm pellets because it doesn't take as long to get them out close in. I caught F1's to 3lb for the rest of the match on a 6mm hard pellet here, apart from one F1 I caught shallow while I was having a look shallow. But they weren't having it shallow today. I fed the margin but again nothing came from here. I weighed in 97lb 8oz to just miss out on my second tonne from Tunnel Barn this week. I was 3rd in the match with an impressive 248lb winning the match! I was a long way behind that!! Read my Blog on this match HERE
19th July - 4th placed, Manor Farm Leisure Affordable Open, Boundary 25, 72lb 8oz.
I started catching small F1's at 13 metres on a 6mm hard pellet then changed to a 8mm hard pellet and found a few better sized F1's after a couple of hours, A quick look shallow produced a Carp around 7lb but that was it shallow. So I turned to my left margin in front of the next pallet in about 8 inches of water. I found Carp and F1's there and caught them on an 8mm pellet for the rest of the match to weigh in 72lb 8oz. 95lb won the match. Red my Blog on the match HERE
18th July - Manor Farm Leisure Wednesday Open. Island 35, 56lb 0oz.
I went to this match because I wanted to practice fishing the Method feeder to the Island. I started on this and I had few fish in the first hour. Being no wind today I couldn't resist going on the pole where I caught well on the bottom at 14 metres and then later shallow with hard pellets. My 56lb was enough for 4th place. 117lb won the match. All the local venue experts seem to fish this pool with the method and Straight lead. I really should have done the same today. I've been coming to Manor on and off for a few months now and it appears to be the best tactic. But fishing the straight really bores me to death.
17th July - 2 placed , Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Evening Open, Withies pool peg 25 - 10lb 6oz.
After catching a tonne the previous day at Tunnel Barn Farm, fishing the Withies pool really shows me I'm doing the right thing this year. fishing away from the Jubilee fishery. This short evening match was terrible for all. I caught 3 fish that weighed in at 10lb 6oz but enough for 2nd in the match.
16th July - Tunnel Farm Barn, Monday Open, New pool peg 10 - 111lb 12oz
With a week off from work I travelled up to Tunnel Farm Barn for their Monday Open, held on New pool. I caught F1's and Skimmers straight from the all in on 6mm hard pellets, feeding 4mm on top 2 and then switched to the left margin again on hard 6mm's after the first 3 hours. I think the longest I waited for a bite was 30 seconds all day!! The venue fished well today with my 111lb 12oz only good enough for 7th place. I was happy to break the tonne barrier though. 173lb won the match. I don't fish, these fish races very often. Its a lot of hard work!! Read my Blog on this match HERE
15th July - Brookfields club match at Woodland View on Back Dean 59, 69lb 0oz.
A nice match catching Carp and Skimmers on top 2+2. The Carp were in the margins early today but I only caught a couple and kept foul hooking them. I gave up and returned to the top2+2 line in the end. I caught well there all day on 6mm Hard pellet feeding 4mm's. Just couldn't get the margins to come good. 132lb won the match.
14th July - 3rd placed Jubilee Fishery, Withies pool peg 22, 38lb 6oz
This match was the Keith Stanley Memorial match in aid of the Midlands Air Ambulance. The Jubilee and the Withies pools were in, paying the top 3 on each pool and 2 sections. So a good split in the pools money. I wanted to draw on the Jubilee pool as the Withies doesn't really compete with the Jubilee pool at the moment. So I draw on the Withies pool !! 22 is still a good peg but a difficult one to fish in the summer due to two lilly beds. I caught 15 small carp during the match but landing anything over 5lb was impossible as these fish just headed straight for the lilly pads. 82lb won the match from the Jubilee pool as expected. Drew the wrong pool today!! Read my Blog on this match HERE
10th July - 2nd placed - Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Evening Open, Jubilee pool peg 8 - 36lb 10oz
I really enjoyed this match, a short pleasant summers evening where I had to really think about my feeding and made a few changes to catch the right fish. Read my blog on this match HERE
7th July - Woodland View Saturday Open, High pool peg 17 - 44lb 0oz
With the England football team playing a World Cup Quarter final I was looking for a venue with an early draw, Wooodview planned a short 4 hour match, fishing 9.00am-1.00pm. I drew 17 on High, weighing in 44lb mainly catching on top 2+2 and 4 carp down the left hand edge. I didn't frame but caught well for a morning match and wish I'd had that extra last hour in the margins.
1st June - Larford Sunday open, Specimen pool peg 4, 79lb 4oz
26th June - 3rd Placed, Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Evening Open, Jubilee pool peg 4, 23lb 1oz
This match was held on the hottest day/evening of the year, with temperatures very high even in the evening on a bright still evening. This really put the fish off feeding until the last hour when it was cooling down. I caught a couple of small carp and 3 Roach early and then added 4 more carp in the last hour to weigh in 23lb 1oz for 3rd in the match. I nearly claimed 2nd but lost out by 3oz!! Read my blog on this match HERE
19th June - Match WIN - Jubilee Tuesday Evening Open, 44lb 10oz Withies 23
I approached this match just hoping to catch a fish as this pool has been fishing hard. I drew W23 which historically has been a good peg but no recent from. I started fishing over to some reeds at 10 metres fishing a soft 6mm pellet and feeding 4mm pellets hoping to catch a few carp but also some silvers to boast my weight. After a slow start I began catching some small carp but I lost some bigger carp in the reeds. I could steer the smaller carp away from the reeds but every time I hooked a bigger carp it took me into the reeds and I lost the fish, even with purple hydro on. I still caught 10 carp from this line before trashing my rig 2 hours into the match. Being a short evening match I hadn't set up any spare rigs so with a 1 hour to go I turned to my left margin line where I'd been feeding meat all the match. This produced another five carp until the end of the match which was enough to win the match. Read my blog on this match HERE
17th June - Brookfield AC match, Lower Broadheath Fisheries, Willow pool 3rd placed with 63lb 0oz
With 19 fishing all on Willow pool pegging was tight. I drew at the far end of the pool which historically isn't the best end to draw but it was a corner peg so I was hopeful of a few fish. I started long on the pole fishing on the bottom with 6mm hard pellets and caught straight away which continued for a couple of hours but these were mostly new stockie carp and not really weight builders. The Carp came into the margins with an hour and a half left in the match and I managed to catch some better carp. I never had any bigger edge dwellers though and I ended up weighing in 63lb 0oz which was enough to finish in 3rd place.

12th June - Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Evening Open - Match WIN 21lb 4oz.
My 2nd evening match win of the summer from the Jubilee pool, peg 10 a peg I blanked off the last time I fished it on one of these evening matches. This time a caught 4 Carp and 3 Roach which was enough to win the match, weighing in only 21lb 4oz. The fishing really isn't as good as previous years, where you would see winning weights of 30-50lb most weeks. Still a wins a win I guess. Read my blog on this match HERE
9th June - Manor Farm Leisure Saturday Open, Windmill 10 - 12lb 1oz
10th June - Brookfields AC club match at Woodland View, Front Deans peg 12 - 25lb 0oz
A 48 hour weekend pass off the mrs enabled me to fish two matches this weekend. Both proved to be poor matches. Saturday saw me at Manor Farm Leisure for the open on the Windmill pool. I drew Windmill 10. Most anglers fishing struggled and the weights were poor for the time of the year with only 40lb needed to frame. I scratched around to weigh in 12lb 1oz from a peg without a feature as did most.
Then on Sunday I fished at club match on Front Deans 12 at Woodland View and struggled again only catching 4 carp shallow and one on the straight lead plus a few silvers to weigh in 25lb. So not a great weekend this week with high pressure and bright conditions affecting the fishing.
Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Evening Open, Jubilee pool peg 27
I had another disappointing match on the Jubilee pool, I drew 27 which isn't one of the best pegs to draw. I caught 3 carp and 2 Roach. I only go to this venue on a Tuesday evening after work because its local to me and don't really expect to catch much these days.
3rd June - Solhampton Fishery Sunday Open - 76lb 15oz
This is was first visit to a Solhampton Sunday Open held on the Buzzard pool. I drew 18 and had a lovely days fishing catching mainly shallow and on top2+2 for most of the day weighing in 76lb 15oz which was 4th in the match. I never caught in the margins but enjoyed fishing and catching shallow. A lovely well looked after fishery and I will be back.
27th May - Woodand View Fishery, Brookfields club match on High pool, peg 16 - 21lb 0oz
This match proved to be difficult, with most anglers struggling on a very humid day with rumbling thunder storms overnight and also during the day. The fish ddn't seem interested in feeding and I struggled to catch with all of my weight coming from my 2+2 line in 8 foot of water on the bottom. There were plenty of cruising fish around but they were not interested at all. Plus the margins were biteless.
22nd May - Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Evening Open, Withies pool 12, DNW
A short evening match in May should mean catching a few fish. These Tuesday Evening Opens have always been good over the last 15 years and I had caught plenty of fish. I've now fished 4 matches this summer and blanked twice. Sadly this pool has really changed in recent years. In fact 50% of the anglers fishing failed to catch a fish. I stopped fishing this venue last year at weekends due to poor match results and only fish there on a Tuesday night because it's close to work and catching no fish is still slightly better than watching Coronation Street!!
19th/20th May 2018 - I fished both days this weekend. Woodland View Saturday Open match and then a Brooklfields A.C Club match at the Jam Factory at Lower Broadheath on Willow and Old pools.
Woodland View Saturday Open, Back Deans 49 - 71lb 4oz Section WIN
I drew a nice corner peg on only my 2nd ever visit to Woodland view open match only to find the fish spawning. I weighing in 71lb 4oz for a section win. Read my Blog on this match HERE
Brookfield AC. Old pool peg 4 - The Jam Factory, Lower Broadheath fisheries, 41lb 8oz 3rd on pool
With Old and Willow pool being in I really wanted to be on Willow, but I ended up on Old. I did the best I could do from the area of the pool weighing in 41lb 8oz for 3rd on the pool. Read my Blog on the match HERE
16th May Jubilee Tuesday Evening Open, Jubilee 4 - 2nd placed with 58lb 3oz
This match saw the Jubilee pool finally wake up with good weights recorded from all over the pool rather than just one end. I caught well fishing corn close to the lilly pads to my left, catching 10 Carp and then when this line died on me I had a couple of Carp from the right hard margin in the last 15 minutes of the match. I didn't quiet do enough for the win though as I was pipped for 1st place by only 13 ounces!! Still a nice short evening match though. Read my Blog on this match HERE
11th/12th/13th May -Jubilee Spring Somerset Festival. Viaduct Fishery, Trinity Waters and Summerhayes Fishery, Overall runner up with 196lb 6oz
I had a fantastic 3 day weekend down in Somerset catching 196lb 6oz of fish over the 3 days. The first day saw us on the Campbell pool at Viaduct. This is an awesome venue with 10 anglers out of the 12 fishing weighing in over 100lb nets. I caught 113lb 5oz to finish 3rd in section on 113lb 5oz catching mainly down the left margin at 13 metres. Graham Scott won the match with 150lb.
The 2nd day saw us at Trinity Waters fishing on the Woodland pool. I weighed in 58lb for a section win on a day where it took a while for the fish to come on the feed. Young England U15 international angler Billy Pitman won the match with 103lb.
The final day saw us at Summerhayes fishery fishing on the match pool. This proved a difficult match where most anglers struggled. Doug Smith won the match easily with 52lb. I was 2nd in the match and more inportantly I managed another section win with 25lb 1oz which give me 5 points over the 3 days which was enough to tie in 1st place for the festival with John Swain. However John had a better weight count back than me and I had a settle for the runners up spot. Read my Blog on this festival HERE
8th May - MATCH WIN - Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Evening Open, Withies 2 - 40lb 1oz
These short 3 hour Tuesday evenings opens during the summer months have always been good for me and it was good to finally catch a few fish on the Withies pool. Withies 2 is a good peg but it hadn't been framing for a few weeks lately. I caught steady throughout the match catching 14 Carp and one Skimmer to weigh in 40lb 1oz. Due to only having half a hour set up time I forgot to take a picture, so here's one from a couple of years ago!! Read my blog on this match HERE
5th May - Woodland View Open, Ghost 15 - 4th placed with 42lb 12oz.
This week I fished a Woodland View open for the first time on Ghost pool on only my 2nd visit to the complex. I set up two shallow rigs and long and short bottom rigs plus a margin rig. It proved to be a difficult match on a bright day with high pressure. A few of the regulars packed up halfway through the match. The long bottom and shallow lines didn't produce for me and neither did the margins and I caught all my fish on top2+2 with hard pellets, but really I left it two late to come on the short lines. Really enjoy this fishery though and still learning it at the moment.
2nd May - Jubilee Fishery Tuesday Night Open, Jubilee pool peg 10 - DNW
I've fished these opens for 15 years now on the Jubilee pool. Last night I was on peg 10, winning plenty of matches along the way. I've always caught fish on these evening matches. Last night a had one bite in the last 10 minutes. This venue has changed so much in recent years that it has become nothing but a pleasure pool these days.
29th April - Moorlands Farm Sunday Open, Island 14 - 20lb 1oz
I returned to Moorlands for my 2nd Sunday open with the hope of drawing on the "right" pool this time. Moors, Bank and Island pools were in and all I needed to do was avoid Island!! In went my hand in the draw bag and I pulled it island 14 in the deeps with about 8 foot of water. Everybody on island struggled for fish on a day that felt back to winter, While Moors produced several 100lb+ weights and good back up weights. Hopefully it'll be 3rd time lucky and I'll draw on some fish next time!
22nd April - Club match - Woodland View, Back Deans 61 - 40lb 0oz 3rd in section
Today I fished my first match with a new club, Brookfield AC and also my first visit to Woodlands View fishing on Back Deans peg 61. It was a nice close match with everybody catching plenty of fish and most weighing in 20-40lb with 68lb winning the match. I set up a bottom rig fished at 13 metres, a shallow rig, top 2+2 and left and right margins. I had a nice days fishing catching mainly on 4mm banded hard pellets on top 2+2 catching carp, Skimmers and good sized Roach. Only one edge dweller came from the margins on double corn despite probably spending to long trying. Really enjoyed the day with a new club that fish some excellent venues and a friendly bunch to!
15th April April - Moorlands Farm Sunday Open - Middle pool peg 12 - 27lb 0oz
This was my first visit to a Moorlands Farm Open. I and a few of my club mates decided going to Moorlands for a change. Two pools were in Silver and the much smaller middle pool. I drew peg 12 on Middle in the corner but with wind blowing down to the other end of the pool I didn't fancy my chances. I weighed in 27lb 0oz for know where. While the other pool fished well with several 80-90lb nets. Most people on my pool struggled with only the peg at the other end of the pool recording a decent weight of 70lb to win the section. So today was really a case of drawing the wrong end of the wrong pool. I still enjoyed the day fishing somewhere different though and I will be back.
8th April - Manor Farm Leisure Sunday Open - Middle pool peg 2 - 36lb 12oz. 3rd in section
It was back to Manor Farm for the Sunday open with yet another good turn out of 39 anglers fishing. I drew Middle pool peg 2 (The first time I have fished this pool) I had a lovely days fishing catching mainly small F1's stockie carp and Skimmers on the pole all day. I couldn't seem to attract the bigger F1's or Carp in the margins and stayed long on the pole catching on 6mm hard pellets to finish the match 2nd in Section.
7th April - Pairs match at Manor Farm Leisure - Windmill pegs 29 again! 4th in section with 21lb 14oz
I drew the same peg as the previous Mondays Easter bank holiday match, While my pair partner Andy Mitchell drew on the Island pool. I was never really in the race, It seems that you need to draw a peg with an island or an end peg at the moment on this pool and peg 29 is in the right in the middle of the pool in open water. I managed slightly better than the Monday but finished a slowly 4th in section. Andy my partner had a better weight but with 65 anglers fishing it was always a long shot.
2nd April - Manor Farm Leisure Easter Monday Open - Windmill peg 29, 3rd in section with 17lb 8oz
31st March/1st April Jubilee fishery and Manor farm Leisure
A weekend not to remember, I drew number 19 both days, which must be my new bogey number which resulted in a Double Bank. I cant remember the last time this happened. Saturday was a club match on the Jubilee pool, peg 19 and then on Sunday I drew island peg 19 at Manor Farm Leisure for the Sunday Open. Never had a bite on both days!!!!
25th March - Manor Farm Leisure Sunday Open, Windmill peg 23 - 3lb 2oz
Manor Farm Leisure Sunday open today, with 43 fishing over Windmill, Ash and Island pools made this a a tightly pegged match. Drew Windmill 23 in the deeps, about 8 foot of water in front of me on a nice warmer day, So guessed at the start of the match the fish would probably be looking for the warmer shallower end of the pool. Started on the bottom with soft 4mm and 6mms but no indications. Tried hard pellets next, still no indications. So tried up in the water, still no indications, margins next with corn, no indications. 4 hours into the match and no fish. Chopped and changed during the last hour and some how caught two Skimmers for 3lb 2oz for nowhere in the match. My worst result at Manor since I've been fishing it in the last few months! The angler on the next peg blanked so at least I caught some thing!!!
25th February - Manor Farm Leisure Sunday open. Ash pool peg 19, 14lb 0oz 3rd in section
It was back to Manor Farm this week on a bitterly cold day. Temperatures were barely above freezing all day and I had a biting wind in my face all day. I still managed to catch I few fish, 3 F1's and a few Skimmers which was better than most, as there were several DNW's today at the venue. Getting fed up with this cold winter weather. When will at ever warm up? It's has been a long cold winter this year.
17th February - Manor Farm Leisure Sunday Open. island pool peg 4 - 9lb 0oz
I drew a good peg with some recent winter form, but struggled all day catching 3 small F1's and a few Skimmers on the pole and one Carp on the Method towards the end of the match. I finished well down the section. Never at the races today
11th March - Manor Farm Leisure Sunday Open, Windmill peg 10, 17lb 4oz 5th in section
With an excellent turnout of 41 fishing, drawing a good peg was always going to be tough, WIndmill 10 doesn't have a lot of good form. Tried 6mm and 4mm soft and hard pellets but I was never really at the races catching 7 F1's one Roach and two Skimmers for 17lb 4oz.
18th February - Moorlands Farm - Club match, island pool peg 13 - 23lb 11oz for 2nd in section
On my first ever visit to venue. I found 8 foot of water in front me and my research on the venue was to fish a 4mm soft pellet. I caught 4 carp which was the bulk of my catch and lots of small Roach and Skimmers. I should have changed to fishing a hard pellet to stop the nuisance fish and to give the bigger fish a chance to find the bait. So lesson learn't for the next time.
11th February - Manor Farm Leisure Sunday open. Lake and Section win, 24lb 6oz Windmill pool peg 29
Another cold winter days fishing I caught steady for most of the day catching F1's Skimmers and Roach by making a few changes to the way I fed during the match to draw in a few fish and build a section winning weight. Read my blog on this match HERE
4th February - Manor Farm Leisure Sunday open, 3rd in Section, Boundary pool peg 39 - 24lb 10oz
It was back to Manor Farm Leisure this week for the open on Island, Windmill and Boundary pools. These pools were re-stocked this week with small stockie F1's and with the weather turning colder the bigger fish didn't seem interested. With most people catching just the new stockie fish. I fished two lines at 13 metres left and right, with one with a 4mm expander over mirco's and the other with 4mm hard pellets. I had bites all day on a difficult windy day which made fishing the pole hard work but I caught steady all day with the hard pellet line being the best line catching stockie F1's and few Skimmers and a couple of small carp for 24lb 10oz.
The 4th round of the fishery winter league finally saw my faint hopes of a top 3 finish disappear. I weighed in 2 fish. One Carp and a Skimmer for 3lb 1oz. I haven't really enjoyed the fishing this winter at this venue. For me I could and have over the years caught plenty of fish here. winning Spring and Winter leagues in the past. Sadly now I feel here it's all down to luck whether you catch a couple of carp or not. I don't really see any angling skill deciding the outcome. I know winter fishing hard but for me it all about scrapping around for a few bites in winter catching a few silvers. Today I had 3 bites and caught 2 fish and this isn't the first time. This has sadly become the norm here. When you work all week and only get the chance to fish a match once a week I want to get some bites. This match marks the end of an era for me at the Jubilee Fishery and now I looking to take my fishing elsewhere. Good luck to everybody else fishing the league, but for me its over.
28th January - Jubilee Fishery Winter League R4 Jubilee pool peg 16 - 3lb 1oz
A disappointing result this week. I caught one small Carp and a Skimmer. I'm really feeling this venue isn't what it once was. Think its the end of an era for me and the Jubilee Fishery, sad times.
20th January - Hillview Saturday Open - 38lb 8oz
This week with Heron, Moorhen and one section on the 3rd canal I was hoping to draw on one of the big pools, I drew peg 75 on the 3rd canal, so I didn't really fancy my changes as this section is only really in because of the number of anglers fishing. I didn't really find the fish until the 3rd hour but I had a nice days fishing despite the temperature only being just above freezing all day. I caught steady for the rest of the match, fishing over to the island on maggots catching small carp and F1's finishing 2nd in the section by a mere 8oz. Just missing out on the section money.
13th January - Hillview Saturday Open - 14lb 0oz.
I drew Moorhen 19 and had a nice winter days fishing even though I only caught 14lb which were mainly Skimmers, Stockies and Roach I had bites all day on maggots. I don't really know the pegs at this venue yet, but talking to the regular sat on the next peg it appeared we'd got no chance and so it was. So no frame this time but bites all day on a bitterly cold January day can't be bad.
6th January, Manor Farm Leisure Saturday open - 16lb 6oz
I drew peg 5 on the Ash pool. A hard winters match, I managed to catch 2 small F1's on the pole with an expander pellet and 2 F1's late in the match on a 6mm hard pellet on the straight lead. Plus a dozen Skimmers on the pole with maggots for 16lb 6oz. This would have been enough to win the section had it not been for the angler on the next peg to me who hooked a double figure carp in the last minute of the match with his 4th bite of the match. I've done that many a time before so I can't complain.....
21st January - Match WIN - Manor Farm Leisure Sunday open 22lb 14oz
On a bitterly cold snowy, sleety rainy winters day I visited Manor Farm Leisure's Sunday open, drawing on island pool peg 6. I caught a small F1 on bomb and bread early. A few silvers during the midway point of the match and then a change to a 6mm hard pellet on the bomb during the last hour found me a few Carp to register my first match win of 2018. Read my blog on the match HERE
14th January - Jubilee Fishery 3rd round winter league - 14lb 3oz.
I drew J3 and managed to pull out of two carp early on dobbing bread in the first hour. Then I couldn't buy a bite. I ended up fishing maggots for anything and caught two Carp for 14lb 3oz. Which was enough to finish 2nd in the section. I had only four bites all match compared to around 25 fish the day before for a similar weight, the difference between a commercial and club water I guess!
7th January, Jubilee fishery - DNW
I drew peg 6 on the Jubilee pool and never had a bite all day long. I was not alone as the anglers to my left and right also DNW. In fact only two fish were caught from my section. A bad day at the office!! Winter fishing at it's worst!!
....to be honest I should have fished the straight lead for longer but I just find it boring.
