2019 match stats
Here you will find details on every match I have fished throughout 2019 good or bad!!
2019 - 87 matches, total aggregate weight 4,487lb
4 wins, 20 framing places / 27% framing ratio
8th December - Woodland View ICS WInter Pairs League Rd 2 - 114lb 12oz
My turn on High or Arles this week with partner Andy on Deans. I drew on High 25. Where I was plagued with leaves on the surface of the water making it hard to get a rig in the water. I struggled all match catching one Carp and a few small F1's and some very small Roach and ended up 9th on the pool. Andy was 3rd on his pool so we ended up on 12 points this week and with a poor draw the 1st week before we're now just making up the numbers in the league.
7th December - Hillview Saturday Open, Canal 3 peg 81 - 94lb 0oz
If one of the canal is in on a Hillview Open you can guarantee I'll draw peg 81 on the 3rd canal. This was the 4th time I've drawn it recent months. I started on maggots but this was just producing very small stockie carp and a few Silvers but later in the match I switched to fishing in front of the pallet to my right into the corner of the pool. I caught well with corn and 6mm soft pellet over a few micro's to put in a good last hour. I weighed in 94lb which was 4th overall in the match and with 100lb winning the match. So nearly there this week.
1st December, Match win, Bear's match, Broomhill pool, Hawford Bridge 100lb 0oz
I guessed at a bears match at Hawford Bridge on the Broomhill pool, Never fished this pool before but I was told I'd drawn a good peg on the end of the pool. I had a great match catch 4 carp on the pellet feeder throwing over to the island while I primed my long pole line with maggots for an hour and a half. When I went on the pole line I caught straight away and it got better as the match went on. I tied the match in 1st place with a tonne. A great winter days fishing, the first time I've broken the tonne barrier in December. A day to remember!! Read my blog on this match HERE
30th November, Hillview Saturday open, Heron 33, DNW
This match was over at the draw bag, I draw 33 on Heron, a great summer draw but not in the winter. I could catch on the pole and being on the end of the pool I was boxed in unable to throw out a rod line, The match was won from the other end of the pool. A no hope peg in winter
29th November, 2nd placed, Tunnel Barn Farm, Friday Flyer open, House 6, 18lb 4oz
My last day off before Christmas saw me at Tunnel for their Friday Flyer, Only 6 anglers fishing but a match is a match!! The match was on House and I drew peg 6, a good peg but being very cold it was winter fishing. I caught a few small F1's and Silvers on maggots, rotating my pole lines to keep the fish coming. Luckily it was hard for everyone else and my 18lb 4oz was good enough for 2nd place. Read my blog on this match HERE
28th November, Section win, Manor Farm Leisure affordable open, Middle 21 - 24lb 4oz
Using up a last few days holiday before the end of the year saw me able to fish Manor's mid week affordable open, this week held on the Middle pool. I've only fished this pool twice before so i kept it simple fishing maggots. I caught 4 F1's and a few Perch and Skimmer to pick up a section win with 24lb 4oz
24th November, Woodland View Winter Pairs Rd 1 - 9lb 8oz
Myself and partner Andy had a bad draw, I found myself on Front Deans 30. A bad match, weighing in 9lb for last on the pool. Winter fishing at its worst.
22nd November, Tunnel Barn Farm, Friday Flyer
I really struggled catching one small F1 and a few micro perch, Winter fishing at it worst!
21st November, Manor Farm Leisure, Affordable Open, Windmill 29 - 20lb 8oz
I caught a carp and two F1's on the bomb and bread during the first hour and them added several more F1's and a few silver in the next hour on the pole and then struggled, I ended up with 20lb 8oz and was about half way in the pool.
17th November, Hillview Sunday Open, Canal 2, peg 56 - 50lb
I drew the wrong pool at the wrong end, Canal 2 has a reputation for switching off after a couple of hours and this is happened again. I caught 50lb in the first couple of hours and then struggled to get a bite anywhere.
16th November, Hillview Saturday Open, Heron 34. 60lb 0oz 2nd in section
This was almost a carbon copy of last weeks match on this pool. I had 3 carp on the bread and bomb before going out to 13 metres on the pole with maggots. I also caught a few on maggot from the left margin this time though.
10th November, Section WIn, Hillview Sunday Open, Heron 39 - 81lb 0oz
This match was over Moorhen, Heron and the 3rd canal. The 3rd Canal smashed the match but I managed a section win off Heron 39 with 81lb 0oz. I caught well catching some good carp at 13 metres on maggots and then a few short on 2+2 again on maggots but a poor last hour where I only caught 3 Chub put pay to the win. Read my blog on this match HERE
8th November. 4th placed, Tunnel Barn Farm, Friday Flyer open, Canal 18 - 8lb 11oz
This was my first trip up to Tunnel for a while, The fishing was hard and I struggled to weigh in 8lb 11oz. Enough for 4th place!! It was that bad!!
7th November, 2nd in match, Wrinklies match, Solhampton, Kingfisher 7 - 68lb 4oz
Taking a few days holiday off before the end of the year meant I was able to fish my first ever mid week Wrinklies match. This week they were at Solhampton on the Kingfisher and Valley pools. I decided to fish maggots this week as the weather had turned into winter mode. I caught plenty of Ide and a few carp long at 13 metre before coming into my short line when I caught well especially for the last hour where i could get it in quick enough. weighing in 68lb for 2nd in the match. Read my blog on this match HERE
3rd November, Hillview Sunday Open, Heron 22, 45lb 0oz
I got it wrong on this match. I drew a good peg and started on hard pellets short and soft pellet over micro's in the margin. It was slow and half way through the match a changed to maggots and I started to catch a few, until my elastic broke at the Dracon 45 minutes before the end of the match. Stupidly I then should have got another rig and top kit out of the holdall and continued with maggots. But no a tried the hard pellets again. Lessons learnt for next time!!
27th October, Woodland View, Clubman match, Arles 4 - 19lb 8oz
The match has 70 anglers fishing that had fished a club match at the venue during the course of the year. I drew on Arles 4 a good peg up at the top end of the pool. The first heavy frost of the year put the fish off and I only caught 20lb of fish. I lost 5 foul hookers during the day which was a pain which cost me the section win.
20th October, 2nd in section, Hillview Sunday Open, Canal 3 peg 81 - 106lb 8oz
I drew canal 3 peg 81 which I seem to live on lately. It's an end peg not the wrong end most of the time. I had a good start catching 50lb in the first two hours on top2+2 with hard pellets before it slowed down and I switched to the margins, catching a few more on corn over micro. I ended up 2nd in the section with 106lb 8oz. Still nice to do a tonne at this time of the year though.
13th October, Hillview Sunday Open, Heron 25 - 70lb 0oz
The weather put the numbers fishing down this time and we were all pegged around the Heron pool. I drew 25 which isn't the best of pegs but a had a nice day fishing catching on hard pellets close in on the pole and a few on soft pellet over micro from the left margin.
12th October, Manor Farm Leisure, 39lb 8oz.
Looking for a change I decided to fish the Open at Manor Farm Leisure this Saturday. I drew island 34 and just caught the odd Carp or F1' on the pole and the Bomb during the day. I found myself pegged in between two angling superstars Chris Cameron and Neil Mckinnon but I held my own with these two for most of the match. I wasn't to far behind Chris and only one fish off Neil.
5th/6th Sept - Hillview Saturday Opens, Moorhen 2 DNW threw back 25lb & 42lb of Heron 27 on the Sunday.
I fished both Opens at Hillview this weekend, didn't really have good draws and I caught very little. One of though's weekends!!
29th Sept, Moors 12, Avalon Fishery, 78lb 4oz (54lb of Silvers)
This was my most enjoyable match of the year. I started on the Bomb and then came short on the pole with corn and began to catch some quality Skimmers. So rather than catch Carp for the rest of the match which would have probably given me a better weight I just wanted to carry on fishing for these decent Skimmers. I caught 54lb of them. The first time I've caught over 50lb of Silvers. Read more HERE
28th Sept Section WIN, Tile 21, The Sedges - 72lb 4oz
I drew a good peg and fancied a big weight from the corner. But I never took a fish from the corner all day. It was a slow start but with two hours to go I shipped out to 13 metres with hard pellet and began pinging hard pellets over the top. I had a good run of Carp to nick the section. Read more HERE
27th Sept, 2nd placed, Carey 105, Viaduct Fishery - 123lb 13oz
With this pool fame'd for big weights of large carp the plan was to fish the Bomb and pellet for most of the match. I fished 3 areas on the Bomb with an 8mm hard pellet, feeding 8mm's. I caught 12 large carp and these weighed in at 123lb with 130lb winning the match. I just needed one more fish!! Read more HERE
21st Sept, Woodland View Section Winners final - Back Deans. DNW throw back 15lb
15th September, Woodland View, Hay 4 - 44lb 0oz.
This was a Brookfield AC match on the Hay pool, A pool I've only fished once before. I caught fish most of the day but the wrong stamp of fish to do any good in the match.
14th September, Hillview Saturday open, Canal 3 peg 81 - 52lb 0oz
It's funny how you can keep drawing the same peg, I drew 81 on the 3rd Canal again. The last time was good weighing in 125lb but this week I struggled. I caught the bulk of my weight in the first 2 hours.
8th September, 4th placed Brookfields AC match, Willow 8, Lower Broadheath fisheries 115lb 0oz
This match was over Sycamore and Willow pools at the The Factory. I started on hard pellets, changed to corn and then I caught steady for the rest of the match on 8mm meat short on 2+2 for 2nd on the pool and 4th in the match with 115lb. Read mu blog on this match HERE
1st September, 3rd placed, Brookfields AC match, Lower Park Fishery, Lowland 12, 38lb 14oz.
This match had a very close finish. It turned out that I needed only one more fish for the win. 39lb 14oz won it and 2nd was 39lb 5oz. I caught most of my fish shallow but I made the change to shallow to late. I nice days fishing though. Read my blog on this match HERE
30th August, Section win - Grant Davis Memorial Cup match, Jubilee Fishery, peg 8, 27lb 6oz
Having won this match back in 2010 I was keen to get my name back on the Cup. The draw for this match is different. When you name is drawn, you then pick your peg. My name came out about half way. So with the flyers already gone I picked J1 which is an OK peg. This fishery isn't stocked like a commercial as its a club water so it can be difficult fishing. I managed to catch 7 Carp and 2 Skimmer for a section win. I good day though as around £500 was raised for charity. Read my blog on this match HERE
25th August, Hillview Sunday Open, canal 3, peg 125lb 0oz, 2nd in section
I had a slow start but had a few shallow over to the island early while I primed my 2+2 line with pellets. I caught well here for a couple of hours and then I had a good 4th hour in the left margin on corn before it died on me. So I returned to the 2+2 line for the rest of the match to weight 125lb 0oz for 2nd in the section.
Brookfield's A/C match on Ghost, Woodland View, peg 2, 88lb for 4th place.
I've been looking forward to this match as Ghost is probably the best pool on the Complex. I had a good draw this time and I caught 88lb of carp short on hard pellets and a few on corn from the right hand margin late in the match which gave me 4th in the match and a few quid
17th August - The Cornstores tackle shop, Charity match, Swan 16, 26lb 0oz (3rd on pool)
There was a excellent turnout of 56 anglers fishing this match on several pool on the fishery. I draw Swn 16 which didn't mean anything to me. I struggled to catch again on the pole on the bottom. All my fish came from my shallow line with hard pellets plus a few small Barbel on the pellet feeder. I weighed in 26lb which was 3rd on the pool. I didn't win anything in the raffle but £1400.00 was raised for charity on the day.
11th August - Pete's pool, Tirley Court. 138lb 0oz
This was a lovely match catching all day, fishing the method over to the island and then a few on the pole short with corn. Normally catching 138lb of fish would lead to a few quid being picked up. But not today the venue fished it's socks off with several anglers setting new PB's. The match was won with an awesome 440lb !!!
4th August - Woodland View Sunday Open - Arles pool 22 - 30lb 0oz
Not a good draw this one, I drew at the bottom of Arles pool. An area that isn't that good. I just spent the day picking off the odd fish on top2+2 and the right margin but I was never really in the race. Just can't draw at the moment!
3rd August - Jubilee Fishery Saturday Open, Section WIN - peg 12 - 40lb 0oz
I returned to the Jubilee fishery for a bit of practise for the GDM match in a few weeks. I drew peg 12, not the best peg but I still had a nice days fishing catching carp at 13 metres in the point of the island. I lack of a decent margin stopped me boasting my weight with a few big edge dweller and I had to settle for some small pellet fish up against the island. Read my blog on this match HERE
2nd August - Tunnel Barn Farm, Friday Flyer, Canal 21 - 39lb 0oz
Being off work I went up to TBF for a bit of F1 fishing. My 1st time on Canal and it showed, weighing in 39lb 0oz. I didn't take maggots and should have done.
20th July, Hillview Saturday Open, Canal 1, 45 - 39lb 0oz
This match proved to be a real struggle for me. I just caught a few shallow, a few on top2+2 and a couple in the margins. I wasn't helped with a club match on the pool behind me and a lot of bank walkers. I don't really know if this affected my fishing but the other anglers next to me also struggled. The other anglers further up the pool did OK and also on the other canals.
14th July, Brookfield AC match, Woodland View, Ghost 8, 3rd placed 96lb 0oz
I fished this match hoping to draw on one of the early flyer pegs. I drew 8 an end peg but the wrong end. I started long on hard 6mm's while I primed the short pole line. This is where I caught well for the last couple of hours to weigh in 96lb for 3rd place in the match. Reaf me blog on this match HERE
13th July, Hillview Saturday open, Moorhen 16, 60lb 8oz, 2nd in section
The match is over Moorhen and Heron pools, I drew Moorhen 16, an area where I quite like not the fished proved to be really slow. Come the last half of the match I began getting some bites and hard pellets on my short pole line and meat in the margins. I ended up with 60lb which was double the weight of either angler beside me. But my area didn't really fish. I end up 2nd in the section with 60lb 8oz
7th July, Woodland View Sunday PM Open, High pool 21 - 17lb 5oz
This was an afternoon PM match, I drew on High 21 which has a good margin and I really fancied it. High pressure turned the pool off and most anglers struggled. I weighed in 17lb 5oz which is a terrible summer weigh but it was enough to qualify for the Section winner final later in the year.
6th July, Section Win, Jubilee Fishery Saturday Open, Jubilee 22 - 23lb 5oz
Having to return home early as we were going out for the night I needed to fish a match local. So I fished my first match at the Jubilee fishery for a year. I drew Jubilee 22, not the best peg but I managed a section win.
30th June, Woodland View Sunday Open, High 4, 63lb 12oz
This was an afternoon PM match on Back Deans and High pool. I drew peg 4 on High. Which is about 6-8ft deep at top2+2. So a good winter peg in that depth of water but being summer not where I wanted to be. I still caught some fish on 8mm hard pellets and four carp on corn from the right hand margin. I weighed in 63lb 12oz for nowhere in the match. But it was a case of a bad draw this week.
24th June, Hillview Saturday open, Heron 9, 77lb 0oz
Just the one match for me this weekend. I was happy to drew heron 9. It was a slow start and the F1's where't really feeding. I caught most of my fish in the right margin on 8mm meat. I weighed in 77lb so not a bad days fishing fishing 3rd in the section.
16th June, Section win, Brookfields AC match, Sycamore pool, Lower Broadheath fisheries, peg 22 - 112lb 0oz
This match had a slow start with pellets and I needed to change to 8mm meat on top 2+2 and late into the left margin. I was really bagging on big carp for the last hour. to rock up my fourth tonne of the year. Read my blog on this match HERE
15th June, Tunnel Barn Farm, Bonus Bonanza Open match, House 23, 44lb 0oz
With a £1000 prize pool this Bonus match it attracted some of the Country's top F1 anglers. I drew on House 23 and caught 44lb of F1's on pellets. Really for this type of match I should do what these top anglers do and buy a gallon of maggots!! Expensive bait bill but you really need them if your going to compete!!
9th June, Brookfield AC match, Woodland View, Arles pool, 41lb 0oz
This match was very tightly pegged and I struggled. I had a good start on hard pellets at 13 metres, struggled short and in the margins before returning long in the last hour for a few more, weighing in 41lb.
8th June, The Jam Factory, Lower Broadheath fisheries, Old pool , 52lb 10oz
The match was over Sycamore and Old pools, I drew on Old and caught well on corn on 2+3 for a couple of hours but I was catching to many small stockie carp. So I changed to 2+2 on hard pellets and caught a few better fish here but not enough so I then switched to the margins and caught a few bigger carp on corn and meat. My bank didn't really fish that well and the better weights were from the other bank.
2nd June, Woodland View Sunday Open, Back Dean 36 - 32lb 0oz
This was the first afternoon open of the year at Woodland View with a good turn out of 47 anglers fishing the match. I fancied Back Deans 36 for a good weight but I struggled again. catching 32lb for no where!!
31st May, Tunnel Barn Farm, Friday Flyer, House 20 - 42lb 11oz
After the awful days fishing at Manor Farm I need to go and catch some fish. So I travelled up to Tunnel Barn Farm for their Friday flyer on House pool. I caught F1's on and off but again the fishing was tough. I weighed in 42lb 11oz which was about 6th or 7th.
30th May, Manor Farm Leisure affordable open, Boundary 6 DNW
This match was on the Boundary pool. I fished for 5 hours and caught two roach and a Skimmer! At the end of May!! The angler on the next peg only caught one carp. So I really don't know why my end of the pool fished so bad. I was on an end peg but the wind was blowing down to the other end of the pool. Never in 20+ years of match fishing have I caught less than a pound in weight from a commercial fishery.
27th May, Brookfields match at Woodland View on High pool 8, 49lb 0oz.
I drew on the right bank for High pool be peg 8 isn't really a good area, just before the bend, I started on hard pellets and caught a couple of carp straight away but as the day went on it was clear pellets won't the way forward, I made a change to fishing corn and began to catch but I made the change to late in the match to frame, weighing in 49lb 0oz.
26th May - Section WIN, Hillview Saturday Open, Heron 33, 122lb 0oz.
This match was really enjoyable. After a slow start I decided to fish for F1's on really light gear, fishing my 2+2 lne with hard pellets. I bean to catch some good sized F1 to 3lb here and stayed on this line for all of the match. To win my section with 122lb of F1's. A really nice days fishing.
18th/19th May - A weekend to forget !!
19th May Nomad match at The Vale Golf Club, peg 12 - 43lb
This was a strange match. I began the match catching well on the hard pellet and after the first hour I had 30lb+ on the clicker. I was on target to do a big weight. Then the peg died on me and I really struggled. weighing in 43lb for last place!! Broke a pole section as well. A weekend to forget!!
18th May Tunnel Farm Barn Saturday open - 20lb
I made a big mistake not taking maggot to this match. I'd been catching well on hard pellet in recent weeks elsewhere. So I went with just pellets. The match was on Extension pool and it fishing hard for all. Only anglers with maggot caught! One wright off.
12th May - Woodland View Sunday Open, Front Dean's 13, 33lb 0oz
It was back to Woodland View for their Sunday Open on Front and Back Deans. HIgh pressure badly effected the pools and the weights were down. I didn't draw well anyway, FD 13 is not a good peg and I struggled for 33lb catching mainly shallow in the last hour. The pool was only won with 57lb so not far off the pace from a crap peg I guess !! At least I drew it on a bad day for all.
11th May - Hillview Saturday Open, Moorhen 5, 2nd in section 70lb 0oz
I had a good start catching two good carp shallow but after an hour with no more I changed to my short pole lines with hard pellets. This didn't produce so I went into the left margin early and stayed there for the rest of the match, only resting it and returning to be other lines as the match went on. I caught mainly F1's here on corn finishing up on 70lb for 2nd in the section.
5th May - Club match WIN, Brookfield's AC, Lower Park Fishery, Abbey pool, peg 57 - 61lb 0oz
This was my first Brookfields match of the season. I had a great start catching tight to the far bank on the pellet feeder catching a few Carp and F1's and then I rotated pole lines with soft and hard pellets and corn. switching between shallow and on the bottom for the match win. Read my blog on this match HERE
4th May - Hillview Saturday Open, 2nd in section with 87lb 8oz from Canal 3 peg 79.
I have a nice match catching small carp and F1's for most of the day on top2+1 with hard pellets and then a few late on on the soft pellet in the margin, close in off my top kit. I ended up 2nd in the section, Lovely days fishing but I didn't really catch the bigger weight builders.
29th April, Nomad match at Tirley Court, 50lb 0oz
This week I had a Nomad/Portabello match at the Tirley Court. I drew a good peg, the first one on the grass bank which is a good peg. But on a cold today it didn't produce its famed weights. I just couldn't catch short and ended up catching a few at 13 metres out to my left on corn in front of some trees in the last hour, to weigh in 50lb for no where, Well done to two tonnes+ weights, Rob for the win 155lb and Robin 2nd with 151lb
20th April - Hillview Saturday Open, Moorhen 15 - 28lb 0oz
Just the one match over the Easter break this year, I fished the Hillview Saturday Open. I drew Moorhen 15 and got it totally wrong. I decided on a meat and corn attacked and beefed up my gear thinking with the hot weather the Carp would really be having it, and everyone bagged up on F1's. I did caught a couple of F1's shallow fro the first time this year but i really struggled in the margins pulling out of some fishing due to using a heavy elastic.
14th April - Nomad match, The Vale Golf club. peg 18, 38lb
This was a small Nomad knock up match at the Vale Golf club, a venue where we'd recently had two matches between ourselves. This time I drew the flyer, peg 18 a peg that had thrown up good weights on the previous two matches. I ran to the peg hoping for a good day. Sadly it wasn't to be, several frosts over the last few days and a cold day where it felt like winter again slowed the fishing down and they didn't come into the corner as in the other two matches. The fish preferred to stay out in the deeper water in the middle of the pool. We all struggled catching roughly half of what we had caught before with the match being won with 52lb
5th/6th/7th April - Nomad Spring Somerset Festival, 6th place finish with 266lb 1oz
This was a 3 day festival based on mini sections of 4 anglers over the 3 days. The first day at Viaduct saw me 2nd in the match and 2nd in section with a big weight, 142lb 1oz. Read my blog on this match HERE. The next day at The Sedges on Tile was another 2nd in section, I weighed in 79lb mainly caught on the Dura method throwing to the island and then on the last day I drew a corner peg at Lands End fishery on Tealham pool. I struggled this time weighing in 44lb which was 3rd on section. This gave me 7 points and a total weight of 266lb 1oz. Which was 6th place but unfortunately only the top 5 places were being paid. Still a nice weekend where I caught plenty of fish.
30th/31st March - Hillview Saturday and Sunday Opens 113lb total weight
This weekend saw me at Hillview for both opens where I had mixed fortunes. On Saturday I drew Heron 36 and had a nice day fishing catching mainly F1's and a few Carp to weigh in 74lb then on Sunday the match was all on canals 1, 2 & 3 I drew canal 2 the worst canal and also on the wrong end peg 56. So I struggled to place 39lb on the scales for no where in the match.
24th Match - Section W|N, Tunnel Farm Barn Sunday Open, 88lb 6oz.
With good turnout of 36 anlgers the open was spread over House and Canal pools, I drew House 25 up in the top corner. I started on maggots for the first couple of hours before switching to meat in the margins, catching F1's and a few Skimmers for most of the day.
23rd March - Hillview Saturday Open, Heron 39 - 27lb
I drew a good peg but really struggled. A could only catch the odd F1 from the right hand margin. I weighed in 10 F1's and one Carp for 27lb and no where in the match.
17th March - Tunnel Barn Farm Sunday Open, New 25, 32lb 6oz.
This week I took at trip the Tunnel Barn Farm for their Sunday open, held on New pool. With temperatures down I planned a maggot match. Its fished quite touch after the Fisho qualifier the day before and I struggled to build a decent weight. I caught all day but never found enough F1's. I weighted in 32lb 6oz for no where in the match.
9th March/10th March. Gale force winds ruin both my matches at Hillview on Saturday and The Vale Golf on Sunday. But I still catch 99lb of fish over the weekend
I fished the Hillview open on saturday drawing Heron 3, a strong gusty wind coming at me at 90 degrees ruled out the pole and I was forced to fish the maggot feeder all the match. I weighed in 41lb. Then on Sunday at was a Nomad match at the Vale golf club. Again the wind was terrible, stronger than the day before but coming from behind me. I weighed in 58lb.
3rd March - Nomad match at the Vale Golf, peg 6, 69lb 0oz
The match was a first time visit to the Vale Golf Club, we didn't really know what to expect but we had heard to fishes well in the summer. It didn't disappoint with 142lb winning the match and 116lb coming 2nd. I caught 69lb which ended up 4th. This was a cracking venue and I can't wait to go back.
2nd March - Commercial Open WIN, Hillview, Moorhen 17, 115lb 8oz
The match saw my first tonne+ weight of 2019. 2 hours in and I was struggling catch the odd small Barbel and Skimmers. I fed the left margin infront of the next pallet and never looked back. To do 100lb in only the 1st week in March really shows have good the fishing is at Hillview
Read my Blog on this match HERE
24th February - Final round, Woodland View ICS Winter Pairs League, High pool, 18, 19lb 8oz
This was the final round of Woodland View Winter Pairs league. I drew end peg 18 on High and struggled, ending up 5th on the pool. The fish were shallow and by the time I realised it was to late in the match. But Me and partner Andy still framed in the league, finishing in joint 8th place.
23rd February - Hillview Saturday Open, Moorhen 9 , 40lb
Not a lot to write about in the match apart it was a pleasant days fishing. I caught a few Carp and F1's on the pole long and to the pallet on my right. I lovely day for February, the bloke on the next peg was even wearing shorts!! No frame this week though.
17th February - Section win, Nomad match at the Jam Factory, Willow pool 22, 67lb
I drew this peg a few weeks ago and caught on the bomb and bread to pipe on the left side of the pool and then a few on the pole towards the aerator. This match was all most a carbon copy of that match. So I started on the bread to the pipe but I had no bites after an hour trying. I tried out in front of me and had no bites just like the previous match so I went 14.5m on the pole to the aerator and caught again catching 67lb to pick up the section/3rd place.
16th February - Hillview Satuday Open, Moorhen 19, 25lb
Back down to earth for this match after my win the week before, I caught only 3 carp but one was a good one about 12lb. I weighed in 25lb for nowhere in the match.
10th February. Woodland View ICS winter pairs league, Front Deans 25, 26lb 0oz
A bit of a struggle this one, I caught two small carp on the pole in the first 4 hours and not a silver in sight. In the last hour I throw out the maggot feeder and caught 4 more carp to give me 26lb and 5th on the pool, My partner Andy did brilliant fisnishing 2nd overall in the match giving us 7 points on the day. which puts us in joint 5th place going into the final round.
9th February, Open match WIN, Hillview Saturday open, Moorhen 19, 61lb 0oz
I nearly didn't fish this match as the weather forecast was for blustery conditions all day but I was glad I did as I won the match!! catching 61lb from the right hand margin with 6mm expanders over micro pellet in front of the pallet on the next peg. Read my blog on this match HERE
3rd February, Woodland View Sunday Open, High pool peg 8, 14lb 4oz
This was another match with ice breaking required before the start of the match. I broke out to 6 sections as only could fish this far due to breaking my no.7 section at Hillview the day before. I fished one line all match with maggots and caught 14lb 4oz which was enough to finish 5th overall in the match
2nd February, Hillview Saturday open, Canal 1, peg 42, 16lb 0oz
I spent 30 minutes ice breaking out to 13 metres to the far bank only to then take out my pole from the bag and ship out with a plummet. The no.7 snapped. I must have dinked last week my pole blow of my pole roller last week. So I was forced to fish the match with only 6 section fishing down the track. I managed to catch a carp, 4 F1's and a dozen small silvers giving me 16lb at the weigh in. The section was won with 16lb 8oz. So I just missed out this week.
Wind ruins my weekend!!
Saturday 26th January was Hillviews open I drew a flyer on the wrong day, The wind was terrible and I could only fish short, weighing in 24lb 8oz. Then on the Sunday 27th it was the ICS Winter Pair League at Woodland View, I drew Arles 12 this time and the wind was even worse than Saturday. I had tackle blowing into the pool all day. It was that bad I had to pack away my pole to stop it being blown in the pool. I caught one small F1 and a few bits for 3lb. One weekend to forget, WInter fishing at its worst.
20th January - 2nd placed, Nomad match, Lower Broadheath Fisheries, Willow pool 22, 43lb 0oz
Rather than fish a local commercial open, this week we arranged our own match at the Jam Factory at Lower Broadheath fishing on the Willow pool. I drew a corner peg and began the match on the Bread and Bomb catching 3 carp and then 5 carp later on corn out of the corner.
13th January - Woodland View ICS WInter Pairs League R4, Back Deans 50 - 26lb 0oz
I drew the good end of Back Deans and felt confident but it wasn't to be. I caught 3 carp on the Bomb and Bread and a few silvers on pole finishing 4th on the pool with 26lb 0oz. After 4 rounds myself and my partner Andy lie in 5th place overall. So all to play for with 3 rounds left to go.
12th January - Manor Farm Leisure Winter League, Windmill 15 - 13lb 12oz
I'm always happy to draw an island peg. Windmill has an island at 18 metres. The only trouble is the venue decided to do some maintenance on the island the day before the match!! I am sure this didn't help. I caught 4 Carp, 3 on the bomb and Bread and one on the pole plus a few silvers.
6th January - Hillview Sunday open, Heron 32 DNW throw back 7lb
It was back to Hillview following a section win the day before. I draw on Heron 32 on the same pool as the previous day. The angler on that this peg didn't catch a carp all day on the Saturday. I did slightly better catching 2 F1's in the last 10 minutes and a few silvers, but threw back approximately 7lb
5th January - Section WIN, Hillview Saturday Open, Heron 28, 35lb 0oz
It was nice to kick off the year with a pick up winning the section/pool at Hillview. Changing from feeding maggots to micro's transformed my peg after an hour catching small silvers.
